Celebrating World Read Aloud Day

ripple

World Read Aloud Day is a project of the LitWorld and the Global Literacy Movement. In the US alone, an estimated 40 million individuals are functionally illiterate—unable to read directions on household cleaning products, or a newspaper column. Literacy has a huge impact on an individual’s ability to gain and maintain a job, and on a child’s prospects for staying in school and eventually pursuing higher education.

This year, Joanne at Once Upon a Bookcase and I are teaming up to celebrate and draw attention to this day of awareness! And I did so by sharing the first-ever public reading of Grim. Head over to check out my video clip, and feel free to stop back and let me know what you think!

And remember: the giveaway for the 21 Minus tour is still open (and will be through Friday), so you should enter! Five free books, how could you say no??

40 *million*?!? Holy crap. That is one depressing statistic.

Kudos to you for raising awareness, and for reading aloud! That takes some guts. I can perform in public easily, but when it comes to reading something I wrote it’s very hard.
